Body Shop Estimator – Summary of Responsibilities

Appraises vehicle damage to determine cost of repair for insurance claim settlement.

  • Examines damaged vehicle to determine extent of structural, body, mechanical or interior damage.
  • Estimates cost of labor and parts to repair or replace each damaged item.
  • Reviews repair cost estimates with body shop manager or foreman.
  • In the event of a disagreement with manager or foreman on repair cost, arranges to have damage appraised by another appraiser to resolve the situation.
  • Determines feasibility of repair versus replacement of parts, such as bumpers, fenders and doors.
  • Evaluates practicality of repair as opposed to payment of vehicle market value before accident.
  • Determines salvage value on total vehicle loss.
  • Prepares insurance forms to indicate repair cost estimates and recommendations.
  • Estimates cost of repainting, converting to special purposes or customizing undamaged vehicles.

Auto Body Technician – Summary of Responsibilities

Repairs damaged body parts and bodies of vehicles in accordance with factory and dealership specifications and time standards.

Auto Body Paint Technician – Summary of Responsibilities

Refinishes damaged body parts and bodies of vehicles in accordance with factory and dealership quality specifications and time standards.

  • Removes rust from metal, and grease and dirt from work surface.
  • Masks and protects parts that are not to be painted or coated.
  • Fills cavities and dents with putty to attain smooth surface.
  • Mixes paint according to specifications.
  • Selects and mixes coating liquid to produce desired color.
  • Paints surface using sprayer or brush as appropriate.
  • Inspects painted units for quality of workmanship, noting any runs, sags and unpainted areas.
  • Heats and sprays wax onto products after they are tested.

Auto Body Administrative Assistant – Summary of Responsibilities

Develops business and marketing plans for Insurance companies, adjusters and agencies. Prepares and monitors insurance billings and follows up on outstanding payables. Assists Body Shop Manager with administrative tasks involving collision estimates and work in process. Closes out month-end reporting duties as assigned by General Office.
