Spire, Inc. is seeking dynamic Lead Fleet Technicians to join our St. Louis team, bringing expertise to maintain and repair a diverse fleet, from grounds equipment to heavy machinery. Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough preventative maintenance (PM) and repairs on a wide range of vehicles and equipment, ensuring operational reliability.
  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and computer system issues, replacing or repairing defective components as needed.
  • Perform tire changes, major component repairs, and Missouri Motor Vehicle and Federal DOT inspections with accuracy.
  • Maintain a clean, organized garage and workspace, adhering to safety protocols.
  • Coordinate pickup and delivery of company vehicles and equipment as required.
  • Respond to occasional emergency service calls in the field to ensure fleet uptime.
  • Mentor and guide junior technicians, fostering skill development and team success.
  • Execute additional tasks as assigned to support operational goals.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or GED required; associate’s degree in automotive or diesel technology preferred.
  • Experience: 7+ years of hands-on mechanical repair experience in a repair facility, working on diverse vehicles and equipment.
  • Certifications:
    • Valid driver’s license (must remain active).
    • Class A CDL with HAZMAT and Tanker endorsements, or ability to obtain within one year.
    • State Inspector License and DOT certification, or ability to obtain within one year.
    • Refrigerant Recovery Certification, or ability to obtain within one year.
  • Skills:
    • Expert knowledge of unleaded and diesel engines, hydraulic, air, computer, and electrical systems, gained through training and practical experience.
    • Strong problem-solving, adaptability, and customer-focused mindset, with effective communication and initiative.
    • Ability to collaborate, lead by example, and seamlessly continue or hand off repair tasks.
    • Basic proficiency with document scanning and interpreting fuel handling and hazardous materials regulations.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

  • Schedule: Train on day shift (Monday-Friday), transitioning to 3:00 PM–11:00 PM with a paid shift differential; occasional weekends and overtime may be required.
  • Physical Requirements: Must be fit to use hand and power tools, climb, bend, twist, stretch, and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Environment: Work indoors and outdoors, potentially in adverse weather, with exposure to oil, grease, and various fluids/solvents.
  • Compliance: Adhere to company safety rules and policies.
