The Shop Foreman oversees the daily operations of the dealership’s service department, ensuring efficiency, quality assurance, and adherence to manufacturer and dealership standards. This role demands exceptional leadership, technical proficiency, and the ability to guide a team of technicians in delivering outstanding customer service.

Key Responsibilities:

Shop Operations & Workflow Management:

  • Direct and organize daily technician assignments to optimize workflow and enhance efficiency.
  • Oversee and prioritize repair orders (ROs) to align with customer needs and dealership goals.
  • Ensure all repair and maintenance services are performed accurately and delivered on schedule.
  • Support technicians by diagnosing complex vehicle issues and offering expert technical guidance.
  • Uphold a clean, orderly, and safe workplace, adhering to Cal/OSHA safety standards.

Quality Control & Compliance:

  • Inspect completed repairs thoroughly to ensure high quality and compliance with manufacturer standards.
  • Supervise warranty repairs to confirm proper protocols are followed for seamless manufacturer reimbursement.
  • Guarantee that all service tasks meet dealership guidelines, state laws, and industry regulations.
  • Handle customer inquiries and concerns about services and repairs, partnering with the Service Manager to achieve swift resolutions.

Team Leadership & Training:

  • Lead, mentor, and deliver technical training to enhance service technicians’ skills and performance.
  • Perform routine performance assessments, offering constructive feedback to boost technician productivity and expertise.
  • Support the recruitment, onboarding, and professional development of new technicians.
  • Ensure technicians maintain current manufacturer training and certifications for ongoing compliance and proficiency.

Customer Service & Communication:

  • Collaborate with Service Advisors to convey repair requirements, estimated timelines, and opportunities for additional services.
  • Deliver exceptional service, ensuring customers fully comprehend the repairs completed on their vehicles.
  • Address and resolve customer complaints about vehicle repairs, stepping in as needed to ensure satisfaction.

Inventory & Equipment Management:

  • Oversee the appropriate use, upkeep, and inventory management of tools and equipment to maintain operational standards.
  • Collaborate with the Parts Department to secure timely availability of essential parts for repair tasks.
  • Evaluate and propose new equipment or technologies to enhance shop productivity and efficiency.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • 3-5 years of automotive technician experience, with prior leadership experience strongly preferred.
  • ASE certifications and manufacturer-specific credentials (e.g., Toyota, Chevrolet) are highly valued.
  • Exceptional diagnostic expertise and comprehensive knowledge of automotive repair techniques.
  • Proven ability to lead, guide, and inspire a team of technicians to achieve excellence.
  • Outstanding communication and problem-solving capabilities for effective team and customer interactions.
  • Skilled in using dealership management software (DMS), service scheduling platforms, and manufacturer diagnostic tools.
  • Thorough understanding of California labor laws and Cal/OSHA safety regulations.
  • Valid California driver’s license with an impeccable driving record.

Work Schedule & Compensation:

  • Full-time role with flexibility for weekend and extended hours as required.
