Joseph J. Albanese, Inc., a premier family-owned construction company since 1955, is looking for a dedicated Shop Manager to lead our Mechanics Department in Santa Clara, California. Reporting to the VP of Equipment and Logistics Operations, you will oversee the maintenance and performance of our company fleet, ensuring operational excellence and safety. Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise shop and field operations, managing workforce scheduling, payroll, timecards, recruitment, and performance evaluations.
  • Coordinate and prioritize vehicle repairs, maintenance schedules, and safety inspections, including BIT and PM services.
  • Oversee vendor repairs, warranty claims, and maintenance tracking via software (e.g., Equipment 360).
  • Ensure compliance with CARB regulations (DOORS, Bus and Truck, PERP) and hazardous waste programs (CERS, EPA IDs, manifests).
  • Manage employee training programs, including safety, software, and equipment certifications.
  • Administer vehicle and hazardous transport permits, parts inventory, and procurement processes.
  • Lead department supervisors across parts, on-road/off-road repairs, pumping, small tools, and Sawcutting Repair.
  • Maintain accurate equipment records, including master lists and compliance documentation.
  • Collaborate with other departments to support equipment-related reporting and initiatives.
    Additional duties may be assigned as needed to meet business objectives.

Qualifications:

  • At least 4 years of experience as a Journeyman Operating Engineer/Mechanic or equivalent.
  • Minimum 2 years in a Foreman or supervisory role within mechanics or fleet management.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and maintenance software; familiarity with Equipment 360 is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of vehicle emissions systems, diagnostic tools, and safety protocols (e.g., Lock-out Tag-out, PPE).
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills with a keen eye for detail.
  • Valid driver’s license and eligibility to operate company vehicles.
  • Preferred: CARB PSIP/CTC certification, forklift/reach lift certification, or welding/fabrication experience.

Physical Requirements:

  • Work in a shop environment involving sitting, standing, walking, typing, bending, and occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
