The service technician provides comprehensive bumper-to-bumper service for vehicles at the dealership. This crucial role guarantees that customers receive high-quality maintenance, leading to elevated satisfaction levels. It also ensures that vehicles remain safe and comfortable for driving, fostering long-term customer loyalty.

Essential Functions

  • We conduct general repair and replacement services, including brake pads and shoes, tires, wheel alignment, steering and suspension components, wheel bearings, exhaust systems, heating and cooling systems, air conditioning, drive train, and accessory installations.
  • We perform maintenance services such as oil changes, fluid exchanges, filter replacements, fuel system services, preventative maintenance, and belt and hose replacements.
  • Our evaluation services include charging system analysis, brake inspections, fluid leak evaluations, and tire pressure and tread depth readings.
  • We also conduct visual safety and courtesy inspections.
  • Our diagnostic services cover emissions control systems, drivability issues, overheating, ABS and SRS systems, and electrical and air conditioning systems.
  • Additionally, we perform advanced repair and replacement services for timing belts, intake manifold gaskets, head gaskets, brake hydraulics, rear main seals, clutches, axle bearings, steering gears, sensors, switches, and modules, always adhering to factory specifications as the standard for all repair, service, and customization work.
  • Make 100% productivity the goal and keep as close to that as possible.
  • Receive service assignments from the service writer or service manager.
  • Have the repair work finished within the allotted time.
  • Set goals, develop skills and constantly increase efficiency skill level.
  • Submit your parts requests as soon as it is determined what is required for a particular job.
  • Keep the service writer or service manager informed of any supplemental work that may be required or of any delays to estimated completion time as you make those determinations so the customer can receive up to date information.
  • Aid service advisor as needed to write work orders, conduct test rides, interact with the customer, or in any other way you are able to guarantee customer satisfaction.
  • Make sure the proper paperwork is completed and filed after every job completion.
  • Keep your technical qualifications current by finishing any required training programs.
  • Take care that the vehicle is cleaner when the job is completed than when the customer dropped it off.
  • Make sure each job is thorough and complete to reduce return repairs. If the vehicle should be returned for additional work complete it quickly, correctly and cheerfully.
  • Provide excellent service for all customers whether external or internal, specifically offering dependable vehicle service.
  • Maintain a clean, efficient work area and assist in keeping the shop neat and organized.
  • Performs all duties in a safe manner, immediately reporting any accidents, injuries or unsafe conditions to management.
  • Shows when scheduled to work, on time, ready and able to perform essential job functions. 
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures and practices.
  • Perform other tasks as directed.
  • Troubleshooting issues with transmissions using diagnostic equipment such as scan tools or torque converters in order to identify problems and determine solutions
  • Reading technical manuals and instructions to determine the correct steps for performing repairs or diagnosing problems with vehicles
  • Inspecting vehicle components such as clutches, brakes, and electrical components for signs of wear or damage
  • Inspecting parts for defects and performing basic repairs such as changing the oil or replacing spark plugs
  • Installing new transmission components such as fluid lines or filters in order to repair vehicles
  • Installing new transmission components such as fluid lines or filters in order to repair vehicles
  • Examining computer data in order to identify problems with transmission operation
  • Performing maintenance on transmission components such as fluid lines or filters in order to repair vehicles

Requirements

  • Seeking candidates with 2 to 5 years of experience in an automotive technician or mechanic role.
  • A High School diploma or GED is preferred.
  • ASE certification is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Applicants must possess a valid U.S. Driver’s License and have a clean driving record.
  • The ideal candidate will demonstrate a capacity to learn new technologies and processes, adapt to changes, innovate, resolve complex problems, and introduce new ideas.
  • They must also be able to follow detailed oral and written instructions.
  • Proven ability to effectively handle multiple priorities, organize workload, and meet deadlines

Supervisory Responsibility:  This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

In this position, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. Occasional exposure to fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and the risk of electrical shock is possible. The employee will also routinely use standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

Physical Demands

The physical requirements outlined here are indicative of those an employee must meet to effectively carry out the fundamental duties of this position.

  • In the course of performing their duties, employees are occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, manipulate objects with their hands, and operate tools or controls.
  • They must also occasionally reach with their hands and arms, climb stairs, maintain balance, and move in a stooped, kneeling, crouched, or crawling position.
  • Employees must be able to occasionally lift or move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • The job requires specific vision abilities, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Typical days and hours of work are set by the needs of the dealership. 

Note: Schedules are subject to change.  Two-weeks’ notice of a schedule change will be provided whenever possible.

Travel: Occasional travel for training or to assist at other dealerships may be required.
