Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), a premier multidisciplinary research hub dedicated to national security through science and engineering, is seeking a skilled Manufacturing Manager 4 to lead our Prototype Fabrication Applied Metrology Group (PF-AM). In this role, you will guide a team of metrology engineers and inspectors, delivering critical data to support LANL’s basic science and nuclear weapons programs, contributing directly to our nation’s security.

Salary Range: $166,900 – $289,000

Work Location: This position is based onsite in Los Alamos, NM, with work locations determined by management discretion.

Key Duties:

  • Support manufacturability reviews, conduct initial drawing assessments, interpret GD&T, develop inspection protocols, program Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs), gather data, compare results to design specifications, produce detailed inspection reports, and manage non-conformance processes
  • Report to the Prototype Fabrication (PF) Division Leader, actively contributing to the division’s leadership team
  • Oversee and coordinate operational activities, ensuring timely delivery of support per established schedules
  • Foster exceptional customer service and enhance personnel, equipment, and infrastructure capabilities within the PF-Applied Metrology (PF-AM) group

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, or a related discipline from an accredited institution
  • 8+ years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience
  • Proven expertise in a manufacturing setting, with a focus on machining and metrology, demonstrating deep knowledge of operational processes
  • Proficiency in inspecting components using contact and optical measurement tools, with the ability to interpret technical drawings and apply GD&T principles
  • Skilled in analyzing quality performance metrics, identifying trends, and presenting actionable recommendations to senior leadership
  • Strong track record in managing teams within a line organization, including performance evaluations, salary administration, budgeting, hiring, and conflict resolution

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expertise in serving as a technical resource for calibration methods and measurement uncertainty, ensuring compliance with relevant standards
  • Familiarity with CMM software such as Quindos, PC-DMIS, CALYPSO, or similar platforms
  • Experience conducting in-house calibration of measurement tools and integrating new technologies into inspection workflows
  • Formal training or experience in driving organizational excellence through continuous improvement methodologies like Lean, Kaizen, Six Sigma, or similar approaches
